Led by Portuguese guitarist, singer, and composer João Menezes, the João Menezes Quartet brings together the rich rhythms of Brazil and the creativity of jazz. A London-based graduate of the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, João draws inspiration from a wide range of Brazilian styles, including Bossa Nova, Samba, Ijexá, Baião, and MPB, alongside jazz standards and contemporary repertoire.
The quartet celebrates the music of iconic Brazilian artists such as Tom Jobim, João Bosco, Tim Maia, Gilberto Gil, Djavan, Seu Jorge, Jorge Ben Jor, and many others, reinterpreting their songs through a distinctive jazz-influenced lens while staying true to the spirit and groove of the original music.
João has performed at leading UK venues including Hampstead Jazz Club, The Pheasantry (PizzaExpress Live), 606 Club, Vortex Jazz Club, and Cheltenham Playhouse, as well as internationally across Europe and Asia.
The quartet features Matheus Nova (bass), Marcinho Pereira (drums), and Giuliano Pereira(saxophone), delivering energetic performances that showcase the depth, diversity, and joy of Brazilian music.
