Saxophones and violins weave harmonious melodies around this rich rhythmic foundation. Every performance is a journey into the heart of African music.
But Okailey doesn’t just perform African music; they reinvent it. Brace yourself for classic songs from Ginger Baker and Cream transformed into a unique African High Life unique style you’ve never experienced before!
The name Okailey is a heartfelt tribute to Abass’ grandmother, who introduced him to the drums as a young boy in Accra, Ghana. Her soulful rhythms, lovingly sung to Abass, were translated onto the drums, laying the foundation for his incredible musical journey. Guided by his uncle, Mustapha Tettey Addy, Abass has travelled the world, sharing stages with legends like Ginger Baker, Tony Allen, Bernard Marsden, Pee Wee Ellis, Van Morrison, Alec Dankworth, Pete Brown, Jonas Hellborg, Herman Rarebell, Malcolm Bruce, Regi Wooten, Michael Mondesir and Kofi Ghanaba, He has also done recording projects with blues rock guitarist, Joe Bonamassa.
