Chandra Chakraborty is widely recognized as one of Britain’s foremost Indian classical vocalists and a masterful exponent of the Kirana Gharana tradition. Based in Surrey, she is a former scholar of the prestigious ITC Sangeet Research Academy in Kolkata, a National Scholar, and an All India Radio Gold Medalist. Groomed from a young age under the strict tutelage of late maestros Pandit A. Kanan and Vidushi Malabika Kanan, she later refined her Purab-aang Thumri style under the legendary Padmabhushan Vidushi Girija Devi. Her deep, evocative voice is celebrated for its emotional depth and technical brilliance, particularly in the intricate improvisations of Khayal and the soulful nuances of semi-classical music.An international performer with over four decades of stage experience, Chandra has graced prestigious global platforms, including the Southbank Centre, the Edinburgh Festival, and a historic performance at the House of Commons in London. Beyond her powerful vocal capabilities, she frequently leads her ensembles from the harmonium, weaving together melodic support and vocal excellence to create a deeply immersive experience for her audiences.In addition to her touring career, Chandra is a driving force for South Asian arts in the UK. She is the founder and CEO of Kalakar Arts UK and the co-founder of Saudha (Society of Poetry and Indian Music). Through these critically acclaimed organizations, she bridges cultural boundaries, curates major cross-genre productions, and mentors the next generation of musical talent.
