Souleymane Diabate is a master balafonist, composer, and cultural ambassador originally from Abobo, Ivory Coast. As the founder and leader of the internationally acclaimed ensemble Djarabikan Balafon, Diabate is highly celebrated for his virtuosic, high-energy artistry and deep dedication to honoring sacred West African musical traditions. He has recently brought his powerful, polyrhythmic balafon work to the UK in major collaborations with the Manchester Collective and the Wooden Roots Experience. Fronting this balafon-led Mandinka group, Diabate delivers a hypnotic, high-energy performance rooted in rich lineage, bringing the vibrant spirit and storytelling of the traditional balafon front and center.
